Rail Travel

Outward: St Pancras International station, change stations in Paris and arrive Avignon TGV station late afternoon. Shuttle transfer to Avignon Centre for train to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, arrive early evening.

Return: Transfer from hotel to Apt for bus to Avignon and shuttle transfer to TGV. Change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International early evening.

  • Day 1 Arrive in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
    • Settle into your hotel les Terrasses du Bassin in the town centre on the bank of the river. B&B. A number of quaint restaurants to choose.
  • Day 2 Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to Gordes - 9 miles (14.4km)
    • Transfer to Fontaine de Vaucluse. To start your walk, follow a 300 year-old wall before heading through cedar forests to Gordes and your stay at La Borie chambre d’hôte with swimming pool. B&B. Eat in a nearby restaurant.
  • Day 3 Circuit walk from Gordes - 8 miles (12.8km)
    • Paths through lavender and thyme-laden fields to Sénanque Abbey and returning along an ancient cobbled path back to Gordes. B&B
  • Day 4 Gordes to Bonnieux - 8 miles (12.8km)
    • Start today with a short transfer to Goult then cross the valley and climb into the heart of Luberon to Lacoste, with the ruined castle of the Marquis de Sade, before continuing to Bonnieux, a village made famous by Peter Mayle in his Year in Provence. Stay at le Clos du Buis B&B. Tonight dinner included in a nearby village restaurant.
  • Day 5 Circuit walk from Bonnieux - 7 miles (11.2km)
    • A pleasant and gradual climb through the forest leads to the ridge of the Petit Luberon mountain with spectacular views in all directions. Drop down on to the plains and a leisurely return to Bonnieux. There is a good choice of restaurants for dinner tonight or eat al fresco in the pretty gardens at your hotel and maybe take a dip in the pool! B&B
  • Day 6 Bonnieux to Buoux - 8 miles (12.8km)
    • Stroll over lavender fields through truffle oak plantations with views from a canyon rim before descending a secret cobbled zig-zag path to the canyon floor and the Auberge des Seguins. Dinner included. HB
  • Day 7 Buoux to Saignon - 9 miles (14.4km)
    • Follow the base of the Aiguebrun canyon to hidden Sivergues and then through the lavender fields to Saignon. Stay at La Pyramide chambre d’hote with swimming pool. HB
  • Day 8 Transfer to Apt or Avignon
    • Depart or stay an extra night to explore the fascinating city of the Popes.
