Rail Travel

Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change stations in Paris and trains at Clermont Ferrand arrive Le Lioran early evening.Transfer to hotel included (20 mins).

Return: Transfer to Le Lioran station. Change trains at Clermont Ferrand and stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras nternational station early evening.

  • Day 1 Arrive Super Lioran
    • Arrive late afternoon and settle into the Hôtel Les Chazes at St Jacques des Blats.
  • Day 2 St Jacques to Thiezac - 13 miles (20.8km)
    • From the bottom of the valley to the high ridges of the valley de la Cère, today’s walking takes you to the highest summit in the Cantal range: le Plomb de Cantal. Follow an ancient Roman path along the ridge line, and be rewarded with spectacular views, before descending to the Apron du Diable.
  • Day 3 Thiezac to Mandailles - 7 miles (11.2km)
    • A challenging but rewarding walk today with spectacular views of Puy Mary. Stay in the mountain village of Mandailles.
  • Day 4 Mandailles to Le Falgoux - 9 miles (14.4km)
    • Pay homage to the Puy Chavaroche before descending to Falgoux and the vallée du Mars.
  • Day 5 Le Falgoux to Le Claux - 8 miles (12.8km)
    • Splendid views of the approaching Monts du Cantal as you walk along the plateau du Luchard. Enjoy the contrasting scenery of the pine forests as you descend to the fertile valley of Le Claux.
  • Day 6 Le Claux to St Jacques - 9 miles (14.4km)
    • A short transfer takes you to the col de Serre to start the climb of the Auvergne’s most iconic volcano: the Puy Mary. Joining the Breche de Roland, (a 30m clift in the ridge) some simple rock climbing is required, (but can be avoided by taking a lower path).
  • Day 7 Depart
    • Depart after your final petit-déjeuner.
