Rail Travel
Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change stations in Paris to arrive in Bordeaux late afternoon. Transfer to hotel included (40 mins).
Return: Depart Arcachon and change trains in Bordeaux, change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International station early evening.
- Day 1 Arrival Bordeaux
After arrival in Bordeaux taxi transfer to Capian and a prestigious guest-house set in the heart of winegrowing estates. Receive your bike and a welcome pack with your route notes. HB
- Day 2 Capian to Saint-Macaire - 25 miles (40km)
- Through the Côtes de Bordeaux vineyards and the bastide town of Cadillac. Tonight you stay at the luxury Hôtel les Feuilles d’Acanthe. HB
- Day 3 Saint-Macaire to Origne - 33 miles (52.8km)
- Cross the Garonne and wind through the famous Sauternes vineyards. Through the valley of the River Ciron to Leogats and Nouaillan before reaching Balizac and the Landes Natural Parc. Tonight a delightful guesthouse in the charming village of Origne. HB
- Day 4 Origne to Le Barp - 20 miles (32km)
- Ride through the forests and inhale the smell of the Pine. Rest at the lakes of Hostens. At Le Barp your Hôtel le Résinier has a swimming pool and a shaded terrace. HB
- Day 5 Le Barp to Arcachon - 20 miles (32km)
- Take the cycle path to Mios, then minor roads as you emerge from the forest to Le Teich where you find a bird sanctuary alongside the waters of the Arcachon Basin. Follow the coastal path to Gujan-Mestras and then a link path to the Atlantic Coast before returning to Le Roc Hôtel in Arcachon. Meal tonight in nearby restaurant included. HB
- Day 6 Cap Ferret Day Trip
- Take the ferry across the basin to Cap Ferret and cycle along the coast to the oyster village of l’Herbe and the Tapper’s Shack before returning to take the ferry back to Arcachon. B&B
- Day 7 Day Trip from Arcachon
- You could simply have a day at the seaside or take the cycle track round the eastern coast of the basin to Biganos and Audenge. Final night in Arcachon. B&B
- Day 8 Depart
- After breakfast take the train into Bordeaux for your departure.
