Pyrenees and Languedoc

  • Day 1 Embarkation
    • Whichever barge itinerary you have booked you will be met in central Montpellier at 4.00pm for transfer to your barge, a Welcome Aperitif and dinner on board.
  • Day 2 Marseillan to Portiragnes
    • Excursion to visit the delightfull village of Pézenes and a cruise past the flamingoes in the Bagnas nature reserve before entering the canal and negotiating the unique circular lock at Agde. Dinner on board.
  • Day 3 Portiragnes to Béziers
    • Negotiate the seven-lock flight at Fonserannes and possible wine-tasting in the 14th century Château de Perdiguier which boasts medieval frescoes. Dinner at a restaurant in Béziers.
  • Day 4 Béziers to Capestang
    • Possibly visit the Oppidum d'Enserune archaeological site, pre-Roman settlement and remains of a once thriving Roman township. Possible excursion to Narbonne, an important regional city with charming shaded boulevards, municipal, military and religious architecture. Lunch at a city bistro and dinner on board. Dinner on board
  • Day 5 Capestang to Le Somail
    • Visit to the 11th century Cistercian Abbaye de Fontfroide. Wine-tasting at Château d'Auris. Le Somail is a delightful little village port on the canal. Optional excursions might include a visit to Minervois with its 12th century Cathar Castle beseiged by Simon de Montfort in 1215. Dinner on board.
  • Day 6 Le Somail to Homps
    • All itineraries include an excursion to Carcassonne, the fascinating medieval walled city and fortress. Explore the alleys, shops and cafés. Possible visit to Oulibo, the local olive press for an olive tasting. Captain's Farewell dinner on board.
  • Day 7 Departure
    • After breakfast disembark for transfer to Montpellier or a TGV station by about 10.00am. Note that on alternate weeks the cruise is in the reverse direction and the daily itinerary is a sample subject to change and dependant upon the particular barge chosen.

    • Anjodi is of classic Dutch design, specifically rebuilt to negotiate the 300-year-old Canal du Midi. She has been completely refurbished in the tasteful tradition of African hardwoods, hand-crafted panelling and shining brass, to create a comfortable and charming ambience reminiscent of a classic yacht. The well planned accommodation offers a choice of four air-conditioned twin/double staterooms, each with full en-suite facilities. The shaded sun deck is unusually spacious, with a heated sunken spa pool and comfortable sun loungers.

      Anjodi has also achieved "film star" status following her many appearances during the television series Rick Stein’s French Odyssey, when she carried the world-renowned chef, Rick Stein, on a 400-mile voyage of culinary discovery through Southern France.
