Return: Depart Bayeux in morning, change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International mid-afternoon.
- Day 1 Arrive Bayeux
- Arrive in the medieval town of Bayeux and settle into your comfortable 3-star hotel, with time before dinner to explore some of the fascinating town - full of timbered houses and quaint streets. Visit the Cathedral de Nôtre Dame and the Hôtel du Doyen.
- Day 2 Bayeux to Arromanches-les-Bains - 9 miles (14.4km)
A trip to Bayeux isn’t complete without visiting the famous Tapestry, which tells the tale of the Norman Conquest in 1066. Then pick up some provisions for an al fresco lunch before heading off through peaceful Normandy villages and apple orchards on your way to the evocative D-Day memorials at Arromanches. Your 2-star hotel here is right on the quayside, overlooking one of the landing beaches. Its restaurant serves wonderful food - dine on the catch of the day as you look out across the sea.
- Day 3 Arromanches-les-Bains to Port-en-Bessin-Huppain - 8 miles (12.8km)
- Today takes you along the peaceful coastline past numerous war memorials and war cemeteries. You may want to call in at the “Arromanches 360” museum on the hill overlooking the town, where you can watch a short panoramic film made up of archive and contemporary footage, giving an insight into D-Day. You can choose to continue your way along the coastal route with splendid views out to sea, or take an evocative inland path that
follows in the footsteps of the No 47 (RM) Commando on the route of their march to liberate Port-en-Bessin. Whichever you choose, there will be plenty of time to pause to absorb the atmosphere before settling into tonight’s hotel in this small port, nestling in the hollow of the cliff.
- Day 4 Port-en-Bessin-Huppain to Bayeux - 7 miles (11.2km)
- Heading away from the coast you find yourself back in the peaceful Normandy countryside for a final day of walking along quiet pathways through fields and orchards, with plenty of time for contemplation. Back in Bayeux, you may find time to follow the Old Town Tour with 21 notice boards to help you explore the town at your own pace. Enjoy a final meal at your comfortable hotel in the heart of this interesting and historic old town.
