- Day 1 Arrival Chéret
- Arrive at Chéret with plenty of time to settle in at the rambling country guest house. The charming owners will make you feel welcome, and in the evening everyone dines together around a large table, so you’ll rapidly feel immersed in the French way of life!
- Day 2 Chéret to Chamouille - 10 miles (16km)
Enjoy a short easy walk along quiet lanes through fields and forestry tracks. En route, you pass a beautiful art deco church at Martigny Courpierre before heading down an enchanting little valley towards Chamouille. Pass round the lake through peaceful woodland to reach the 3-star Laon Lac de l’Ailette nestling in a corner of the lake. You may arrive in time for a swim in the hotel pool, before settling down to enjoy a hearty meal in the restaurant whose large
windows look across the water.
- Day 3 Chamouille to Laon - 11 miles (17.6km)
- Wander through quiet lanes to the little village of Monthenault before making your way through verdant pastures and woodland. The medieval hilltop fortress of Laon with its spectacular gothic cathedral is visible from some distance. Home to some 80 classified properties, Laon was the capital of France from the 11th to 14th century. Tonight’s hotel, a former staging post, is in the centre of Laon close to the cathedral. After dinner it’s worth exploring the town by night when its buildings are dramatically floodlit.
- Day 4 Laon to Chéret - 9.5 miles (15.2km)
- As you leave Laon, enjoy the splendid vistas stretching out before you. You pass through a tranquil, pastoral landscape aptly named Domaine de la Solitude before arriving in Bruyères. Take time out to visit the remarkable church that dates back to the 12th century, and the 19th century underground fortress. You’ll arrive back at Chéret with plenty of anecdotes to share as you enjoy a sociable meal at the guest house.
