Charm of Champagne Tour Driving Holiday
Champagne and Alsace
Optional Extras
Add an extra night to the start of your stay half-board at Sept-Saulx to spend a day in Reims. Explore the magnificent Cathedral where French kings were crowned, museums devoted to history, art and automobiles, champagne houses and chocolatiers. Return to Sept-Saulx in time for dinner.
Combine this holiday with our Burgundy Wine Trail, for a full week in France. Call us to discuss the itinerary and for a quotation.
- Day 1 Arrival Sept-Saulx
- (200 miles from Calais - 3 hours) Your first night half board is at Hôtel le Cheval Blanc, Sept-Saulx just ten miles off the Autoroute A4 to the south of Reims. HB
- Day 2 Montmort-Lucy and Champagne Mercier
Drop your luggage at La Villa Eugene (B&B) in Epernay, the former Belle Epoque residence of the Mercier champagne family, tastefully restored to provide luxury accommodation. There is an outdoor swimming pool and for your evening meals there are many restaurants just ten minutes walk into the centre of Epernay down the Avenue de Champagne - our favourite being La Cave à Champagne.
Drive 25 miles through the Côte des Blancs to Montmort-Lucy for a fascinating tour of the medieval and renaissance château with its museum of the local wartime resistance. Return to Epernay to visit one of the champagne houses - we include tickets to visit Mercier Champagne with a laser guided train through their deep underground cellars. B&B
- Day 3 Hautvilliers and Champagne Tribaut
Visit Champagne Leclerc Briant in the Epernay suburbs, here you can pre-order champagne with your own personal label and enjoy a full tour of the vineyard and cellar.
Drive 5 miles to the village of Hautvilliers, where it is thought that champagne was first created by the monk Dom Pérignon. A pretty village to stroll around and we recommend a visit to Champagne Tribaut, a small family winery producing Premier Cru Champagne for three generations. In the afternoon perhaps take a relaxing riverboat trip on the River Marne from Cumières. B&B
- Day 4 Collect your Champagne purchases
and Depart to the autoroute!
