Rail Travel
Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change stations in Paris to arrive in Angoulême late afternoon. Transfer to hotel included. (20 mins).

- Day 1 Arrival Asnières-sur-Nouère
- Your holiday begins at the Hostellerie Maine Brun in peaceful countryside just 5 miles northwest of Angoulême. This 3-star hotel has an outdoor pool.
- Day 2 Asnières to Bassac - 25 miles (40km)
Head north to Dorgeville and the impressive Roman Amphitheatre and then to Rouillac for lunch. Continue via Merignac to reach Bassac and the Hotel l'Essile with lovely gardens and locally renowned restaurant.
- Day 3 Day trip from Bassac - 21 miles (33.6km)
Follow the river to St Simon and visit the Gabare boat museum with optional short riverboat river. Cycle to St Simeux for lunch before continuing to Châteauneuf and circling through pretty hamlets on your return to Bassac.
- Day 4 Bassac to Cognac - 25 miles (40km)
- Pass through Jarnac, perhaps visiting the Courvoisier distillery and Francois Mitterand Museum. Head south to Segonzac and back through Roissac to your hotel at Chateaubernard on the outskirts of Cognac. Domaine de l'Echassier has an outdoor pool or maybe upgrade to the luxurious Château de l'Yeuse.
- Day 5 Day trip from Cognac - 30 miles (48km)
- Ride through mainly Pineau producing vineyards and lush forests past the Abbey de Fontdouce to St Bris des Bois. Follow a small river valley to rejoin the banks of the Charente for a lunch stop. Continue along the banks of the river skirting the town of Cognac through Châteaubernard. Or instead choose to take an in-depth tour of the city and some serious Cognac tasting with complimentary ticketsto the Hennessy Cognac house.
- Day 6 Cognac to Asnières - 26 miles (41.6km)
- Meander along the valley of the Charente to St Simon and then cross country to return to the Hostellerie Maine Brun for your final night.
