Outward: Depart St Pancras International, either early morning, change trains in Paris,arrive Redon station early afternoon, or depart St Pancras International 11:30, change stations in Paris, arrive Redon 19:30.
Return: Depart Redon 13:30, change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International 19:30, or depart Redon 08:30, change trains in Lille, arrive St Pancras International 15:30.
- Day 1 Arrive at Redon
- Although in central Brittany, linked by navigable rivers and canals, Redon has long been an important trading post. Take a walk along the wharf, and admire the shipowners’ ancient houses before settling into your hotel. HB
- Day 2 Vallée de l’Oust to Malestroit - 28 miles (44.8km)
- North of Redon the Oust Valley surrounded by canals and rivers is a wonderful natural site. Malestroit, known as the Perl de l’Oust, is a little city full of charm and character. HB
- Day 3 Malestroit to Rohan - 25 miles (40km)
- After a few kilometers, you will arrive at the superb medieval city of Josselin. The impressive castel is witness to Brittany’s historical past. Explore the old town centre with its numerous little lanes lined with half timbered medieval houses. Then on to Rohan. HB
- Day 4 Rohan to the Lac de Guerledan - 34 miles (54.4km)
Continue to the Napoleonic fortified town of Pontivy,
where the 15th century château overlooks the river. Picnic on the banks of the Blavet or stop for a lunch in one of the Crêperies. By the end of the day you will have arrived at Guerledan Lake; ready to enjoy an aperitif in one of the lakeside cafés. HB
- Day 5 Lac de Guerledan to Carhaix - 37 miles (59.2km)
- Pause to take in the Cistercian Abbey with its imposing architecture. Continue to Carhaix, the capital of Poher, (joli pays) the culture centre of Brittany. B&B
- Day 6 Carhaix to Châteauneuf du Faou - 28 miles (44.8km)
- You now enter into the department of Finistère. Cycle alongside the river Aulne, the early riser may encounter heron, deer or squirrels en route to Châteauneuf. HB
- Day 7 Châteauneuf to Châteaulin - 28 miles (44.8km)
- The last day’s cycling will take you towards Châteaulin,a religious town in the heart of legend territory. The magical Monts d’Arrée dominate the horizon. Don’t forget the photo finish at Guily Glaz (last lock before the sea) and then return by train to Redon for your final night. B&B
