Rail Travel
Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change trains in Lille and Narbonne, arrive Carcassonne early evening. Transfer to hotel not included (10 minutes, about 20€).
Return: Train from Béziers or Sète, and change stations in Paris or Lille, arrive St Pancras International station early evening.
- Day 1 Arrival Carcassonne
- Arrive in Carcassonne at 2-star Hôtel Montmorency or 3-star Hôtel du Château. An evening meal will be booked at a nearby restaurant. HB
- Day 2 Daytrip from Carcassonne - 17 miles (27.2km)
- Perhaps simply explore historic Carcassonne or saddle in on a hilly circuit to the south. Your second night is B&B enabling you to choose your own restaurant in the old town. B&B
- Day 3 Carcassonne to Homps - 26 miles (41.6km)
Cycle along the canal through picturesque Trèbes and Marseillette to the Auberge de l’Arbousier situated on the canal bank in Homps. HB
- Day 4 Homps to Cabezac - 16 miles (25.6km)
- Leave the canalside today to pass through olive groves to Bize-Minervois and your night at the 3-star Bastide de Cabezac, a superb hotel with pool. HB
- Day 5 Cabezac to Nissan-les-Ensérune - 25 miles (40km)
- Return to the canal at Le Somail and follow it again through Capestang, perhaps visit the Roman remains of Oppidum, on your way to Nissan-les-Ensérune and the Hôtel Résidence which has a pool. HB
- Day 6 Nissan-les-Ensérune to Béziers - 10 miles (16km)
- In ten miles you reach Béziers with an interesting old quarter and an aqueduct carrying the canal over the River Orb. Leave the canal to find the Hôtel des Poètes for two nights B&B.
- Day 7 Day trip to the coast - 20 miles (32km)
- Follow the canal to Portiragnes before turning off to the beach at Redoute Plage. Dip your toes in the Mediterranean before retracing your steps to Béziers. B&B Optional 30 mile extension from Béziers to Sète, the ancient port town where you stay B&B at either the Grand Hôtel or the Hôtel Port Marine. There is now a new cycle path alongside the busy coast road.
- Day 8 Depart by rail
- Just a ten minute walk to the station either back to Carcassonne to collect your car or by TGV home via Lille.
