Many people combine both stages. Day 6, 1st Stage, is then followed by Day 2, 2nd Stage, for a 12 night holiday.

Rail Travel

Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change trains at Lille Europe and arrive Perpignan early evening. Transfer to Tuchan included (40 mins).

Return: Transfer to station not included (10 mins walk). Transfer to hotel not included for overnight stay. From Carcassonne change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International station late evening.

  • Day 1 Arrival Tuchan
    • Arrival via Perpignan in Tuchan at the 2-star Hostellerie du Montauch.
  • Day 2 Padern to Duilhac - 10 miles (16km)
    • After a short transfer your walk takes you through the early medieval village of Mollet and the wine centre at Cucugnan. You can see the 13th cent. Castles at Padern and at Quéribus. Stay at the Auberge du Vieux Moulin.
  • Day 3 Duilhac to Cubières sur Cinoble - 10 miles (16km)
    • You pass the Galamus Gorges and see the hermitage of St Antoine de Galamus and the fortress of Peyrepertuse. Upon arrival at the Gîte Accueil in Cubières you will be allocated to a friendly chambre d’hôte.
  • Day 4 Cubières to Sougraigne - 10 miles (16km)
    • Today you pass through the chestnut forest and Bugarach. In Sougraigne you stay at the Auberge l’Ecluse au Soleil, a 2-star Logis de France.
  • Day 5 Sougraigne to Granès - 12 miles (19.2km)
    • Follow way-marked trails through Rennes le Château to Granès where you stay at Gîtes les Tamaris chambre d’hôte.
  • Day 6 Granès to Quillan - 12 miles (19.2km)
    • Today you pass through traditional Pyrenean villages and over the Col des Trois Quilles. Your final night is at the 3-star Hôtel La Chaumière.
  • Day 7 Departure and Carcassonne
    • By rail you have an extra night in Carcassonne (B&B) before catching the train to Toulouse with TGV and Eurostar back to UK. Transfer back to Tuchan to collect your car. Transfers to Perpignan can also be arranged at a supplement.

  • Hotel - Hostellerie du Mont Tauch

    • Hostellerie du Mont Tauch is a welcoming and simple small hotel situated in a pretty house of the early 19th century just at the entrance to the village. The village is close to the Réserve de Sigean, not far from the Gorges de Galamus and famous Cathar Castles. Some rooms have a view of the Pyrennees and the restaurant specialises in local, traditional recipes.There is also private parking.

    • This hotel is about 4km away from and below the famous Chateau de Peyrepertuse. It has 14 comfortable rooms and beautiful views across the Pyrennees, including the famous and evocative castle. It is a 2 star Logis de France hotel.

  • Hotel - Domaine du Bouchard -L'Agly

    • This is a series of small gites in a small Pyrennean hamlet (Hameau des Baillessats) 4km from Cubieres with beautiful views across hills and lakes. Le Bouchard is an estate of 300 hectatres, entirely fenced due to local deer, mountain sheep and wild boar.They breed hare and wild sheep on the estate and manage oak and beech woods to provide heating for the gites.

    • Granes is a small village, surrounded by vines and forest, deep in the countryside and not far from Rennes le Chateau. This is a simple chambre d'hote, but comfortable and rooms are alrge and have an en suite bathroom. Your evening meal here is good and robust and includes wine.

    • The Chaumière Hôtel is situated in Quillan, a market town in the French Languedoc. This is a medium-sized hotel with comfortable ensuite rooms and a good, gourmet retsaurant. When the weather is fine, you will enjoy breakfast on the terrace with its wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
