Outward: Depart St Pancras International Station, change stations in Paris, arrive Bordeaux late afternoon.

Return: Depart Bordeaux, change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International early evening.

  • Day 1 Arrival Bordeaux
    • After arrival in Bordeaux take a taxi transfer to a 3-star Hôtel le Pont Bernet at Pian Médoc, which boasts gastronomic cuisine and a the wine cellar with several grands crus of the Médoc. Receive your bike and a welcome pack with your route notes. HB
  • Day 2 Pian Médoc to Moulis or Listrac - 25 miles (40km)
    • Follow the Châteaux Road along the Gironde through the vineyards of Margaux, Haut-Médoc and Moulis-en-Médoc. Tonight you stay in a château chambre d’hôte with dinner in a nearby restaurant. HB
  • Day 3 Moulis or Listrac to St Yzans de Médoc - 33 miles (52.8km)
    • Continue through famous vineyards, passing Paulliac, with its charming little harbour and the estates of Latour and Lafite Rothschild. Tonight another charming guesthouse in the vineyards. HB
  • Day 4 St Yzans to Royan - 37 miles (59.2km)
    • Your ride across the estuary marshland is rewarded with much wildlife, particularly migrating birds. Take detours to the pretty tiny fishing ports or the Richard lighthouse for stunning views. Take the ferry across the estuary to Royan where your 3-star Hôtel Family Golf or Hôtel Foncillon are in the heart of the seaside town. B&B in Royan with plenty of restaurants to choose nearby. Optional extra night here.
  • Day 5 Royan to Mortagne-sur-Gironde - 22 miles (35.2km)
    • From the coastal marshes, cliffs and forests, oyster farms and fishing ports past Talmont-sur-Gironde, the archaelogical site of Fa and the retreat of St Martial. Tonight a charming chambre d’hôte and dinner at Café de la Rive. HB
  • Day 6 Mortagne to St Palais or Soubran - 30 miles (48km)
    • Leaving the banks of the estuary discover the estates producing Cognac and Pineau de Charente. Pass fields of sunflowers, windmills and châteaux before returning to the estuary and the vineyards of the Côtes de Blaye. Tonight a lovely châteaux chambre d’hôte. HB
  • Day 7 St Palais or Soubran to Virsac - 37 miles (59.2km)
    • Following the estuary marshes through historic Blaye and medieval Bourg and prehistoric caves with ancient wall paintings. Your final night is in a château guesthouse. HB
