Rail Travel

Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change stations in Paris and trains in Angoulême arrive La Rochefoucauld station late afternoon. Transfer to hotel included (20 mins).

Return: Transfer to depart La Rochefoucauld and change trains in Angoulême, change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International station mid afternoon.

  • Day 1 Arrival Montbron
    • Your holiday begins at the Château Sainte-Catherine just outside Montbron, a delightful château in a peaceful park with swimming pool. HB
  • Day 2 Day trip to Rochefoucauld - 26 miles (41.6km)
    • An easy ride along an old railway track to Rochefoucauld with its interesting château - maybe dress in medieval garb for your visit! Afterwards return along a river valley with just a short climb back to the Château Sainte-Catherine. HB
  • Day 3 Montbron to Nontron - 19 miles (30.4km)
    • Cross country for a coffee stop in the ancient village of Vairaignes before following the Bandiat valley to Nontron. Enjoy two nights B&B at the chambre d’hôte la Maison des Beaux Arts, which has a pool and is just a few minutes walk from the town centre. B&B
  • Day 4 Day trip from Nontron
    • Simply explore this charming market town with ancient château and knife-making museum, or take a circular ride through woodland to the Château de Beauvais. B&B
  • Day 5 Nontron to Brantôme - 18 miles (28.8km)
    • A steep climb over the mountain to St Pardoux-la-Rivière is followed by a level ride along the valley of the River Dronne to Brantôme. Stay at a 2 or 3-star town centre hotel. HB
  • Day 6 Day trip from Brantôme
    • Day Trips down the river to the pretty medieval village of Bourdeilles, or along the River Trincou to the Grottes de Villars, with prehistoric cave paintings. Alternatively take a riverboat cruise, try your hand in a kayak, or simply browse the stalls at the Friday morning market. HB
  • Day 7 Brantôme to Montbron
    • Spend a final morning in Brantôme before being collected after lunch for transfer back to the Château Sainte-Catherine for your final night. HB
