Rail Travel (1st Class)

Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change stations in Paris and trains at St Pierre des Corps arrive Montrichard late afternoon. Transfer to hotel included (10 mins).

Return: Transfer to St Pierre des Corps included (10 mins), change stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International station late afternoon.

  • Day 1 Arrival Château de Chissay
    • This imposing 16th century château offers a large outdoor pool, a vaulted dining room and peaceful inner courtyard; a wonderful setting in which to begin your exploration of the Loire valley.
  • Day 2 Day trip from Chissay - 10 miles (16km)
    • After threading through the ancient village of Chissay, cross open fields and vineyards to Chisseaux and then follow the River Cher to the fabulous Château de Chenonceau. After viewing the gardens and interior of this architectural masterpiece, return along the banks of the Cher for a second night at the Château de Chissay.
  • Day 3 Chissay to Amboise - 14 miles (22.4km)
    • A peaceful walk through woodland to Amboise to stay at the Château de Pray which dates back to the 13th Century, and has a Michellin starred restaurant.
  • Day 4 Amboise day walk - 3 miles (4.8km)
    • Amble into Amboise and visit Leonardo Da Vinci’s residence Le Clos Lucé, or stock up on French produce in the town. Stay at the luxurious Le Pavillon de Lys and enjoy your meal on the shady terrace with view of the Château Royal.
  • Day 5 Amboise to Noizay - 8 miles (12.8km)
    • A short walk through the fertile fields of the Loire Valley to the opulent Château de Noizay in the heart of the Vouvray vineyards. The hotel gardens house an outdoor pool and tennis courts.
  • Day 6 Noizay to Vouvray - 10 miles (16km)
    • Leaving Noizay walk through vast acres of the Vouvray vines to the village of Vernou. Then climb the slopes above Vouvray to reach Château Gaudrelle for a free wine tasting experience. Finally a short descent through the village to reach the unique hotel Les Hautes Roches, where you may spend the night in a troglodyte chamber hewn into the cliff face with spectacular views of the mighty River Loire.
