Rail Travel
Outward: Depart St Pancras International station, change stations in Paris and trains at St Pierre des Corps, arrive Blois late afternoon. Transfer to hotel included (5 mins).
Return: Transfer to Saumur station included (10 mins). Change trains at St Pierre des Corps and stations in Paris, arrive St Pancras International station late afternoon.
- Day 1 Arrival Blois
- B&B at Hôtel Anne de Bretagne in the centre close to the railway station. B&B
- Day 2 Blois to Candé - 15 miles (24km)
Collect your bicycle from ‘Detours’ office and explore the city before you cross the river to cycle west to Candé and a night at the Lion d’Or including evening meal. HB
- Day 3 Candé to Amboise - 15 miles (24km)
Cycle along the riverside tracks to Chaumont with time to visit the International Garden Festival, which runs all summer long. On to Amboise where you stay half board at Hôtel le Blason. Perhaps book an extra night if you wish to visit the Royal Château or Clos Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci’s manor, housing an exhibition of his life and work. HB
- Day 4 Amboise to Tours - 20 miles (32km)
Continue to the sprawling city of Tours. Stay at the Hôtel Châteaux de la Loire and meander through the old quarter past lively cafés to find the restaurant of your choice. B&B
- Day 5 Tours to Azay-le-Rideau - 20 miles (32km)
Leave Tours by the Voie Verte cycle route to Villandry Château and its ornate medieval vegetable gardens, before continuing to the Auberge Pomme’poire and a homespun evening meal. HB
- Day 6 Azay-le-Rideau to Chinon - 20 miles (32km)
Return to the riverbank and pass the Château d’Ussé, inspiration for Grimms Sleeping Beauty, before heading to Chinon and the Hôtel le Plantagenet. B&B
- Day 7 Chinon to Saumur - 20 miles (32km)
- Return to the riverside at the charming village of Montsoreau with its mushroom caves and head west again into Saumur, perhaps enjoying a dégustation at one of the riverside wineries before checking in at the Hôtel Anne d’Anjou for your final night and evening meal. HB
- Day 8 Return to Tours/Chenonceaux (Optional)
- Take the train to Tours to connect with your onward rail journey home, or to return to your car at Chenonceaux, in which case you may wish to consider an extra night half board in Montrichard at the Hôtel la Tête Noire. HB
