This region, just across the Channel is packed full of bustling cobbled market towns, sleepy villages with meandering lanes and superb long beaches. Picardy with a quintessentially French atmosphere and a history that marks years of European conflict - is said to be the crossroads of France. Surrounded by gently rolling green hills, it is a picturesque region with wide open spaces and some of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world.

Weather

Summers tend to be warm, with variation in conditions. The climate here is moderate and most of the rainfall occurs in the Autumn.

Wine & Cuisine

There is a distinct Flemish feel to the dishes here, including carbonnade (beef stew cooked in beer with onions and spices), and hochepot made of beef, pork, mutton and oxtail cooked with vegetables. Strong and heady cheeses are a characteristic and sausages too, but look out for the speciality spicy tripe ones! Bottled beer tends to be more popular than wine in the North and locally brewed ales can be found in some of the villages. The flavoursome regional spirit is Genie`vre, gin flavoured with juniper berries.
