Normandy and Mayenne Holidays
La vie Française
Weather
Normandy enjoys a pleasant climate, generally mild and influenced by south westerly winds. Rainfall is less than in Southern England.
Wine & Cuisine
Normandy cuisine often includes apples, cream, cheese and a dash of Calvados! Creamy Camembert and Pont l’Evêque are ‘signature’ products of this dairy-rich region and the proximity of the coast means that sea food is in abundance. Sole and mussels are particularly popular, covered in divine creamy sauces. Normandy is known for its superb lamb - particularly from the Cherbourg peninsula. Little wine is produced here. Instead there is wonderful cider often produced on an individual scale by farms and smallholders, which is distilled into fiery Calvados. The finest is said to be from the Pays d’Auge, close to Deauville. This can be drunk during the meal as a ‘trou Normand’, or afterwards. Try Bénédictine, a popular, ancient liqueur still produced by monks.
