Cycling First Timers

Cycling is great fun and provides an easy way to explore the highways and byways of rural France.  Whether you are pedaling on undulating hills, along quiet country lanes, through unspoilt landscapes and charming villages there is always plenty of time to stop and admire the view or simply pause to breathe in the aromas.
Each day head off at your own pace to explore the route to your next hotel - no need to worry about your luggage as our local representative or friendly taxi driver will transfer it for you.  You have all day to reach your destination so there is plenty of time to stop for coffee or buy the ingredients for an al fresco lunch en route.  Take time to explore picturesque villages, stop off at vineyards for some wine tasting or just take time to contemplate the view.

Our Bikes
The bikes we provide are mainly hybrids - a cross between a tourer and a mountain bike - and all geared to suit the terrain you will be cycling on.  Saddles in most regions are gel but if you want to bring your own saddle that isn't a problem in fact if you want to you can bring your entire bike! When you book your holiday you will be asked to provide heights and inside leg measurements so that we can ensure the right bike is ready and waiting for the start of your holiday.  The bikes are all fitted with at least one pannier and come complete with a tool kit which includes a spare inner tube and puncture repair kit.  In the rare event of a complete breakdown then a friendly bike repair man will come to your rescue.

How it all works

Travel pack
We send out your travel pack approximately 4 weeks prior to the start of your holiday – this includes your rail tickets or ferry vouchers and directions for your journey.  You will also find an itinerary and vouchers for your hotel accommodation plus detailed cycling notes and maps indicating every track and lane you might wish to explore plus comprehensive information on places of interest, picnic spots and cafés.

Arriving
Arrive at your first hotel, usually late afternoon, to be greeted by the friendly staff and directed to your comfortable room.  Then probably the most important decision - what to have for dinner?

The next morning head for the bike workshop and your bike which will be ready and waiting for you.  All the bikes are prepared in advance, all we need from you is heights and inside leg measurements.  There is plenty of time to have a trial pedal to ensure you’re comfortable with the bike and make any minor adjustments.  Then check your panniers to make sure the tool kit is safely tucked away and simply pack away the day’s essentials – water, sun screen, sun hat, camera and maybe some light wet weather gear just in case!

Armed with your indispensable cycling notes & maps it’s off to explore lanes and tracks that will take you to your next hotel and another warm welcome.  Whilst you've been cycling, your luggage will have been transferred, and at most hotels will already be waiting in your hotel room.

Evening meals are included at most of our hotels and we consider this to bea very important part of each day! You'll usually be eating from a menu with a good choice for each of the 3 or 4 courses - a perfect way to round off the day!

Most of our cycling routes are circular, eventually taking you back to the hotel from where you started. Time to bid farewell to your bike and then back to your hotel for a final meal and a chance to reminisce on the events of the past few days.
